Your content is important for gaining trust online, your site could be well built and looks and functions well, however without good content your online marketing is going nowhere.

After all Search Engines are looking for good quality, relevant content from an authoritative source to direct users when they leave the search engines results pages.

Your users are seeking information about your brand product or service.

Some websites get their content strategy wrong by producing material that just ranks for specifically for keywords or creating content that is low quality to chase the “Long-tail” Keywords and ranking higher than perhaps it should, which becomes over optimised and of little use to people seeking information.

Search Engines are now getting wise to this, 2011 saw the launch of the Google Panda update which affected 12% of websites throughout the world. This update it targeted sites with duplicate content a low quality content.

Furthermore the Penguin update in May 2011 targeted websites that use Article sites and directories.  Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) changed overnight, the large set of changes we’ve seen in a long time.

There will be winners and there will be losers. But cleaning up the internet is a good thing, regardless of what some might say about this recent update.

We now need to focus on creating quality and engaging content that people will share.

It’s now becoming important to better understand where your content should go and what purpose it really serves.
